With the long winter nights drawing in and a chill in the air, we need to start thinking about the consequences that winter can have on our health. 'Flu tends to affect more of us in the winter months but you can take some simple precautions to avoid catching and spreading this virus.

Some people may also be considering visiting their GP for a 'flu jab.

What is 'Flu?

'Flu is caused by viruses which infect the respiratory tract (i.e the airway). Most 'flu in the UK is caused by the Influenza A virus and because flu tends to be seasonal, you are most likely to become infected between the months of December and March. Top Tips to avoid the spreading of 'Flu

  • Make sure that you cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and wash your hands beforehand if you have to do so.
  • Hygienically clean surfaces and items around the house that are frequently touched by different people with a bleach based cleaner such as Domestos Bleach Cleaning Spray.
  • Both ill people and carers should wash their hands regularly.
  • Cleaning cloths can spread 'flu germs. To keep them disinfected, they should be left to soak in a solution of dilute bleach overnight, and dried thoroughly.
